Please help me if you have any advice, my mechanic is 4 weeks backed up and can not help me over the phone anymore and I do not know what to do next.
I have a 1992 Yamaha 250 v-X. The engine starts and idles perfectly. I have been noticing more smoke at idle recently. When I accelerate to WOT the engine makes it to full rpm but then quickly slows down. It will occassionally knock when I floor it but does not knock for long and only at lower RPM's. I've changed spark plugs, made sure all were firing, changed my fuel water separator, cleaned carbs, taken all wires off and cleaned connections on motor, taken out each fuel pump and made sure there were no leaks or broken gaskets, I've tried pumping the bulb at WOT to see if fuel pumps are the issue, but it still cut out, and do not know what to do next. I took my oil injector off and premix when fueling. It feels to me like the computer is shutting off cylinders once I reach WOT. The boat slows from 40mph to 28 and then loses plain and slows down even more. Is there anything else I can do? I am supposed to take my family to the beach next week and I really want to have the boat ready by then. Thank you for your help!

I had a similar problem on my Mercury. It turned out to be a hairline crack in my fuel line. The crack was hard to see because it was on the side of the line that rests against the hull. It was very narrow, but long. It only affected performance at WOT when pressure on the line was at its greatest.

When did this start? You say you took the oil injection off? Why? Was it right before problem started?
