Re: i need help

Your pole position is incorrect on the back of the tach or is malfunctioning. Someone may know off hand the pole postion for Mercs, but if you provide S/N I can help.

Re: i need help

The pole position selector is usually on the back of the tachometer, adjusted with a small slotted screwdriver. Common positions are 6 and 12 pole.

There is a prop calculator which you can use to estimate the RPMs. Do a search for it. You can enter speed, gear ratio of 2::1, and prop slip of 10% and it will tell likely RPMs. Now if you can get your tach to read close to the prop calc, you can feel that is is likely correct. 12P is the normal seting for Mercs. What brand of tach do you have?
