I bought what i think is a 1966 silverline deville 16 foot. The guy i bought it from had no clue what it was. I tore the bottom end off and reset the prop shaft and plan on redoing the flooring in the upcoming weeks. The state im in requires no title for anything built before 1999. I cant really find much info including a HIN so registering a is going to be a nightmare. Im hoping someone might be able to help me nail down some info on restoring this boat,

Usually in a no title state you need 2 things to put the boat in your name, 1st a Bill of Sale and 2nd, the last registration card or whatever the state issues for registration renewal.

Got any of those?

there are no HIN's prior to 1972, only serial number tags

however you still need proper paperwork for the boat to be legally yours.

as GA stated above, usually a signed BOS and a signed registration. Without those, dont start a restoration, as in the eyes of your state you dont own it. and as for a model...... until properly registered, its a yard planter

I Bought an "alumnacraft" last summer and when I filled the registration number with WI-DNR, it came up as a MirroCraft. I don't know about your state but you could try this method.

Is the registration current or expired? Can't see the sticker in the pick.

If you want to register the boat in your name, talk to the state. They have the answer.

Ive got a Bill of Sale but no registration card.

reading between these two statements means that the BOS you have doesnt list any description and you havent gone to try to register it. if the guy you bought it from doesnt have a valid registration (not necessarily current) then he may not have legally owned it either.

as GA stated, check with the registration folks in your state/county and they will help.

Years ago I bought a '65-15' Sears runabout from Oregon I live in Washington. The guy gave me a title but it was wrong, Titled as a 14'. Lucky for me it had been registered in WA before. My state issued me a new title based on it's old registration numbers. Title still says 14'. I told the clerk… they said unless I wanted to file for lost title and maybe never get it, I could just accept it. So I did.

Moral: Track the old title by the last registration numbers. Your state knows what you have. even if it's wrong, It's right.
