after 30yrs with outboard boats, have my fist I/O
and was wondering what would be a good checklist
for a GM/merc 140 before/after each launch? I have
kept an eye on oil level/cond., but it can't be
that easy, can it?
as always, thanks in advance,
M.Y.

Re: I/O checklist

Admiral,
I check my oil before I launch. My outdrive also has a oil resevor.
I fire up the motor and Idle out until the motor warms up and scan my gauges. If there is no temp or oil pressure issues then its blast off time!
I always flush my motor if running in salt.
Thats it.
Just change the outdrive and engine oil every 50-75hrs and it will last a long time!

Re: I/O checklist

I start my checklist at home.

1)Start on muffs and bring to operating temp and check gauge readings.

2)Check oil level and condition in motor.

3)Have someone verify that all lights on trailer work properly.

4)MAKE SURE THE PLUG IS IN!!!!!!!!!!

5)Off to the lake.

>>>>>>>HAPPY BOATING<<<<<<<

Re: I/O checklist

Probably the most frustrating problem with an I/O is that it can't be pull started (and damn hard to roll start :D ).

Keep the battery, especially connections, in good condition and top up the charge well before trip to the ramp.

Aldo
