thanks, I agree, he's acting like the engine knock magically appeared and has nothing to do with his work, he jerked the engine in and out to pull the drive, I'm pissed but too ignorant to make a solid argument

Pull the drive and run the engine to make sure it is an engine knock. You'll have to supply water to the engine some how though. I am not sure what kind of a drive you have but you can rig a garden hose up somehow .

You never know it might be a drive noise or something.

First is it a merc or OMC?
As far as out drive work goes I think I can safely say he wouldn't have had to pull the engine out to service ether make, unless it was something other then the out drive that was an issue.
Where is the knock coming from?
What does it say on the bill of work that they did?
Yes knocks can appear after something else is fixed. Sometimes when you fix something, something else down the line can't take the stresses. In order for this to be of use is to give us more info...

Alex

Gunner, You need to know if the engine is knocking or not. Pull off the outdrive, stick a garden hose onto the cold water intake on the motor and start it up. If it knocks, the mechanic needs to fix it (somehow). If it don't knock, you got an outdrive knock!
