Re: i/os four stroke?

There was an attempt once by OMC or Merc to use 2-Stroke in a kinda I/O arrangement. Other than that all 4-strokes. Of course the Yamaha and Bombardier and other boats with the little jets are 2-strokes, so those would qualify as inboards . . .

I think force "L-drives" were 2 stroke OB style engines mated to an I/O... from what I see around here, they don't have a good rep

There was also an Attempt by OMC using their old V4 2-strokes in front of an outdrive that looked sort of like a Stringer drive,..........
OMC put these things in some Wierd Looking Tri-hulls under the OMC Banner,..............

BTW,...... Key Word in All of this is "Attempt"....... :D

Brian,
Nice pict. of yur boat. Is that a coil for each plug? I guess it would simplify the distributor.

Uncle dave

Re: i/os four stroke?

Thanks for the info guys. I was pretty sure the Force L drive was a 2 stroke, but didn't know about some of those other "experiments".

I guess its a pretty safe bet that anything from the 80's on (except that Force monstrosity) is probably a 4 stroke.

I was asking because I'm thinking of getting a different boat (trading in my old boat with a two stroke), for a newer I/O type of setup. I'm getting tired of the 50-1 mixing, and "smoke on the water".

Since I'm on the subject...are there any I/Os to stay away from (other then the Force L drive)?

Spart

Didnt mean to hijack your thread, but the 4 coil thing seemed interesting.

If you would list what you are looking for and the price range, there would be plenty of comment from this bunch.
If buying an older boat check it out , check it out,
check it out.

Uncle Dave
