I Purchased a motor wihout a control box, where do i get one?

Hi, I purchased a 1963 evinrude speeditwin 28 hp but it did noot come with controls. Does anyone know where I can get bare bones basic controls for it that don't cost 250.00 dollars? Does anyone here have controls they would sell me? It was probobly a foolish move to buy a motor without controls, I didn't know any better.

Ebay.
Search for "Evinrude Simplex" or "Johnson Shipmaster". A control boax and cables and the end connections are not going to be exactly cheap.
You can also contact one of the salvage yards listed in the "Top Secret" thread at the top of this forum.

If you have a dealer who sells the engine and has been for many years, a lot of time they either have old boats sitting around with them, some take-offs, or in rare instances has a new one collecting dust on a shelf.

So, say I find just the control box with no cables. How much are cables and how universal are they?
