Engine: Force 50
Year: 1987
Model: 507X7C
Serial: 1251

Yes i know its stupid, what damage have i done? Im going out with the seloc manual and an ohm meter to start testing things. I wanted to see if there is an order i should check, im sure people do this all the time (and hate themselves for it), and to see if there was anything else i should know.

1.) it was reversed for 5 seconds, and there was sparking at the terminals
2.) the choke was applied and the key was turned
3.) after ward there is no response from anything electical from the boat or motor (electric choke, starter, running lights, radio)
4.) the fuse on the battery wire is not burnt
5.) the starter works if directly run off jumper cable

need to figure out what i toasted (please dont say the stator) ~gratis

Chris @ Smith's Marina

Circuit breaker probably tripped however the regulator/rectifier is probably toast. If you can start it hook a battery meter up to the battery and see if the voltage goes up to above 13 volts. If not you will need a new rectifier.

yea the circut breaker tripped. When i reset it everything seemed to work (choke and starter operation by the key. I read the rectifiers are very sensitive anybody know how to test them? People at my marina are saying an ohm meter. I read an old thread about a 4 post rectifier on a 70' something chrysler engine. Could they be the same?

~gratis

With the engine running, check the voltage at the battery.
It should be substancially higher when the motor is running.
As eurolarva said, 13volts or higher would indicate the charging circuit is working.
