I screwed up with my ignition switch

Couple weeks back, I rebuilt my carbs, replaced my fuel lines, tore apart my trim and put it back together. The last thing I was told was bad was my kill switch, which I also replaced.

After getting it all back together, I started it up, it ran absolutely perfect, until I went to shut it off. I turned the key to the off position, it kept running, I pulled the kill lanyard, kept running, finally in a bit of frustration, I pulled the ignition switch and started disconnecting wires until it finally shut off. Problem is now I dont know how to wire it back up. Does anyone know how to properly wire up the ignition switch?
Its a 1989 ranger boat with a 150stlcem. It has a hidden remote, with a gunwall mounted killswitch and the idnition switch is seperately on the instrument panel. I am looking for some sort of wiring diagram, or some clue as to hook it back up.

Re: I screwed up with my ignition switch

If you pulled wires OFF the switch to kill the engine, it was NOT that act that killed the engine. It just died on its own. On an outboard you short the ignition to ground to kill the engine -- not by opening a circuit as is the case with an I/O engine.

"B" terminal = battery = +12V from the engine.
"A" terminal = accessory = +12v to instruments & accessories when key is on
"C" terminal = choke/primer solenoid = +12V when key is pushed in
"M" terminal = magneto = ground
"M" terminal = magneto = kill wire from the ignition (the two M terminals are connected together when the key is turned to OFF. This shorts the ignition to ground to kill the engine.
"S" terminal = start = +12V to starter solenoid when key is in START position.

This may help you also...You may want to add a fuel shutoff valve between your Tank and Engine exactly for situations like the one you mentioned ...
