Hi again.

Well as you may know I have my boat almost ready for the maiden voyage on the new engine, which I was hoping was going to be on my birthday this Friday.

I had the engine in, aligned, outdrive on, everything but the cooling and the alternator. So I went to do the alternator first. The 2 belts I installed (since you cannot change the belt without removing the front engine mount while supporting the engine) are too short. No doubt about it. Brand new from the dealer. Severely aggrivated, I reassembled the hoist, supported the engine, removed the front mount, and compared the new belts to the old belt (why just now I'm saying to myslef) and the old one is longer. I installed the old one as a test and it fits fine, almost too long since it's old.

Sorry for the story, here is my question...

So do I now have to remove the outdrive and realign the engine since I unbolted the engine from the mount? I did not touch the mount's attachment to the floor, just unbolted the engine from it and moved it, the rubber bushing allows enough movement to get the belt on and off, and I just aligned the engine days ago.

Need advice. The seloc manual states that if you are not removing the sterndrive you do not need to do an alignment. I want to hear some real advice.

Thanks...

I'm assuming that you own an alignment tool.If I were you I would bolt the engine back down and recheck alignment. It probably will not change. But do you want to risk the engine coupler.

Definitely not, but I can't think of how it could change... The engine didn't even move when I took out the bolts, it's just hanging exactly where it was when it was bolted. The bolts came out by hand.

I don't know. I have to think this one over more.

Edit - and yeah I have the tool.

You are fine. If you didn't change anything then nothing should have changed.
Ever go to the Keyport Fishery? The wife loves that place. Mom, who still lives in Jersey, said the line was out the building on good Friday.

I have done the same last year. There is no need for realignment.

Hello, If you didn't touch the adjustment on the engine mount you will most likely be fine. However I myself being quite meticulous with these kind of things would probably check it anyway. Besides, I would hate lying awake in bed at night just wondering if it was something that I should have done even though I didn't want to! :D

Well common sense prevailed once again. I got the correct belt (matched at national auto parts) and installed it. Yanked the OD and stuck in the tool, it was still dead-on. At least I know now. Just getting it back together now but wanted to say thanks again to everyone that replied.

Let's hope this is my last "HELP ME" post for a while! :)

Thanks!
