:Dok just a quick run down 89 force 50 the compression is #1 120 #2 115 +- new pugs newer #1 coil plug boot was shorting out, cleaned the carb, 50 to 1 on the gas. the engine just started to run bad and i have a post on here for the top plug has oil on it and the bottem plug looks new and they both have good spark i checked with a spark tester so i just put the boat back in the water thinking the newer coil and carb cleaning was the problem but once it hit the salt water the rpm was only 3000+- and it would jump like it was going to start to run good and take off but i just would not so i tryed pumping the fule ball and still nothing.:D so i got it home and the #2 coil is got spark but not like befor and not like #1 cyl. i put in a used coil that a got from ebay but the wire was to short and bang great spark ! so could that coil have been my problem all the time and why the #2 plug always looked so good and now just now it died. please let me know what you all think

Spark check.Use a tester like the one in the pic.
The spark should jump at least 7/16 with a good coil.
In-line testers can be used for running and testing in the water while under way.
Very well could be a bad coil all along.
You have a points system or CD?
Post a pic or serial#J
I sent U a PM

no i used a inline tester and it was week so i put newer coil in and great spark then put old one back and week spark . and its a cdi motor. so do you think it was week under a load and now it just got weeker. i would think it would just die and thats that.

The higher cylinder pressures when running need more voltage for the plug so a weak spark in air ..less than 1/4 in will not be good enough under load
