I found a 78 115 johnson on craigs list. J115ETC 78C. It has been sitting for years 10 years or so. I squirted a little wd40 in each cylinder and let it soak for a bit. The fly wheel was easy to move by hand so I don't think the rings were sticking at all before I sprayed them. The engine is very clean and all the stickers are in place inside the housing and it was very clean. Compression was a little on the low side but all of the cylinders were pretty even. 95 98 98 102. Tested cold of course, I didn't have the facilities to attempt to start it. could not check spark because the key was lost.
Push pull steering, and hydrolic tilt on the motor....$200. I think the the compression will come up a bit after a good seafoaming and a warmup before testing. I'll post some pics as soon as I get it mounted.....I bet it starts up with just a little carb cleaning.

$200 is pretty good for that motor. The ol' 115's were pretty good motors. I think once you get some fresh fuel mix in that motor and run it for a bit, the compression will improve. Once you get it running, I would do a decarb too. While you're checking it over, I would check the gearcase oil too and make sure there is no water intrusion. A well sealed lower unit will make that deal all the better ;)

If your power tilt/trim goes out you'll probably spend more buying a working replacement on ebay than you did on the whole motor so yes I'd say you got a great deal.

Indeed. '78 was the changeover so I'm not sure which TnT system you have but if it's the older style with the rams mounted outside the transom bracket.....those unit are worth $400+ by themselves.
