I think I have the right size motor for my Arima?

Ok, after much research I believe that the Suzuki 4 stroke in 70hp would be a good fit for my 15ft Sea Hunter. That motor is 335 lbs, and im certain it would be fine. I was leaning toward Yamaha 75hp at 370 lbs, but thought that is pushing it.

Ok can I be reinforced with this decision? Is it a good one? This motor would replace a 70hp Mercury in a 2 stroke at 225 lbs. Thanks in advance. Dave in OR.

You may develop balance and handling issues, but you could move the battery forward for a little help. You may end up needing trim tabs to help the balance issue. That is a pretty decent weight jump for that size of boat, and the 150 pounds added takes that same amount away from your total weight carrying ability. Thats one less person you can carry, but if you use it mostly by yourself then that isn't the end of the world. How is your transom, is it in good shape? Where is your fuel tank?

Transom is in great shape, battery is up front, but the fuel is in the rear of the boat. I thought with a four stroke I would carry less fuel?

See now you got me thinking again!! That's good though. My backup plan was to go with the Yamaha 60hp 4 stroke. It weighs in at 224lbs.

I just want to go with a four stroke, but being used to a 70hp I didn't want to drop too much. I will 99% of the time run with 2 people only.

I have heard to many people who own 50hp 4 strokes with that boat say they wish they would have gone with more power? Hum??? The wheels are turning again???

I think you made a good choice, Fisher.

I have had my DF70 for 3 years now, and I like it better every time I get out.
