1)Check your lanyard kill switch( hooks from switch near console to your person, used to kill engine if you go overboard)make sure its ON
2)make sure your fuel line is hooked up and the primer blub is pumped up(new fuel in tank right?)
3)if still no fire, squirt a little premix directly into the throat of the carb(s), should at least pop over, if it does your problem is fuel related
4)Pull a sparkplug, hook it up to the same wire, GROUND the sparkplug to the engine block, should get spark. No spark? check back with this forum...good luck! ;)

There may be a emergency stop tip up mercury switch with 2 wires.
Ignition uses a kill switch (like a lawnmower)
open to run shorted to ground to stop.
If you disconnect the various kill wires including the tip up switch and try it.
If still no spark check the mag/Distributor.
Johns Old Mercury Web Site at www.pfs-ware.com
good Q/A board and links. Also Grubbs Marine has
reprint owners and service manuals for your motor
at:www.oldmercs.com
