i think my minn kota maxxum prop is spinning the wrong direction

i changed motor brushes does it matter what side the red and black go on? the prop spins with the flat side of the blades going first, counter clockwise. my motorguide goes clockwise with the curved part of the blades going first, clockwise. any ideas?

i think it should spin clockwise. Most do. If you have the wiring backwards,yeah,it'll turn the wrong way.do you have the prop on backwards,ant is supposed to turn cc wise ? I think not,forward and reverse would still be oppisite.

inside where the brushes go there are two wires that attach to the brushes themselves i didnt pay attention to which brush went with which wire. could that be it? or in wiring on foot control possibly?

Unless you changed something in the foot control, doubtful. Switch the wires on the brushes if you can't flip the brushes.

Looking at the prop from the rear, it is supposed to turn clockwise. If yours is turning counter-clockwise, then yes, you have swapped the wires when installing the brushes. So go back in there and swap them back. You could swap the wires on the top in the head unit, but then it will forever be backwards and you would be better off doing the job the correct way... JMHO!

i found out the magnetic motor housing was 180 degrees off causing the polarity to be switched making it spin backwards. there is a little notch in the motor housing so the minn kota assemblers know how to line it up right it lines up with the fin on the bottom. i did this and it works right. thanks all for your input and advice this is a great site
