I have an 85 sea ox with a Volvo penta stern drive. its a aq290 engine( gm 350). im in the process of doing some drive repairs and an engine repower. the gauges I have fill with fog and water and don't work all the time. was wondering what I should check on my system now to make sure I get gauges that will work. I want to replace the spedo, tach, fuel, oil press, and engine temp. im no electrician so I don't want to buy a complete gauge set and have some that won't work with what I have now. I would also be interested in changing out the panel that holds them if they sell a panel with gauge combo.

Fortunately, gauges are fairly generic so a gauge package designed for a sterndrive will most likely be fine. You set the dial on the back of the tachometer to match the number cylinders (8). If you are unsure, contact customer support at Faria or Teleflex. The speedometer doesn't connect to the motor or drive at all (it uses a pitot) so that's not an issue. There is a small possibility that the fuel gauge could be incompatible with your sending unit; this might also be the case with the temp gauge.
