I would like to install a smaller prop. I would like to get out of the whole quicker. It is a 1994 mercury xri 200. Current prop is a 14 1/4 x 25 top speed is 70. I would like a little quicker on plane thanks in advance.

Well if you are hitting 70 GPS then your rpm is probably close to 6000. If you drop down to a 23 pitch you might have to watch your rpm.

Do you know your current rpm and type of prop, that will help the guys here give you better advice.

Is your current prop a mercury prop? If so, which line of prop, does it have the Performance Vent System? If it does, changing the size of the vents can make a difference in your holeshot? Is your engine mounted on a jack plate?

Sorry to sound dumb but I'm new to the big motors it is a rapture prop it was on the boat when I purchased it. I'm running bout 5800 rpm it is not on an adjustable jack plate it's fixed. I would like to get on plane quicker I'm assuming I will have to sacrifice top end speed I have another prop that came with it also I will have to look what brand but it is a 14 3/4 x 25. Both are 3 blade stainless thanks

Do you trim down for hole shot?Any weight you could move forward?
You might consider a ventilated prop.
Its possible your present prop has bow lift
According to my info your already over reving.
A simple pitch reduction could might put you way over.
You might consider a 4 blade in the same pitch.
It will probably cost some top end.But should improve hole shot
and stay on plane easier at reduced throttle may respond better around the dock.

Yes I trim down for take off. So the other prop that I have the 14 3/4 x 25 isn't really gonna make a difference I was going to install and try but I don't want just because thanks for your help

your spare prop has more diameter. If you are currently over revving with a smaller dia prop, the extra area should give you better holeshot and drop your rpm
