i want to know top speed and reach it

i have evinrude 1991 150 xp on a 185 nitro tracker. i have tried everything to reach top speed. it tops out at 55. how fast should it be going. according to the 1990 bass master magazine it was one of the fastest boats out then . my rpm gage top out at 3300rpm at top speed. could this be the top end timing not right. i have a new power pack, rectifier, fuel filter and fuel lines. it never increase power. it came with a stainless steel prop.

55 is pretty quick but you may want to try reducing the pitch of your prop.<br />Are you sure the tach is accurate?

The tach can't be right. It'd never get up on plane. There are settings on the back of the tach. It needs to be set differently than it is. If you have access to an inductive tachometer, you can use that to set the tach. Some timing lights have tachs built in. They're usually for 4-strokes, so it'll read double of what actual is on a 2-stroke.<br /><br />How fast does your speedo go to? If you have a 65mph speedo, it should be fairly accurate. If it's an 85, it's accuracy could be in question. The closer to the max speed of the speedo your boat will go, the more accurate it'll be.<br /><br />Do you know the pitch of the propeller? It should be on the prop somewhere. How many blades?

Yeah, the tach is definately not right. No boat can do 55 at 3300 RPMs.

Get your tack working correctly or repalce it first. Then work with the set-up and prop to get to max WOT. Then get a GPS to measure speed and - - wa - - la. What you see is all you're gonna get speed wise without a bigger motor.
