Ice in the blocks - nervous if damage was done

If anyone can give me a better feeling about this, I would appreciate it.
I have a pristine 96 Ski Centurion with a Mercruiser 350 inboard.

I keep it in Maine.
This year, I fell behind in getting things done and just dropped it off to my mechanic for winterizing on Nov 6th ( I voted by absentee ballot).

My mechanic was headed out for a trip but was good to take time and winterize my boat that day since cold weather was coming. I haven't spoken with him, but his wife (good lady) called me to tell me that the boat was all set. He winterized it right after I dropped it off. She mentioned that he did find ice in the block.

Since he did follow through on winterizing and flushing antifreeze mix through the engine, can I assume that there was no damage? I trust him, so I believe he would tell me if their was damage, but until I get to speak with him in 2 weeks, I'm nervous about what kind of damage could have been done.

Any help is appreciated

unfortunately, 'we' don't have enough info to make a judgement, so for now your assumption is the best you can go on.

It is snowing in Boston right now . . .

The only way to be sure, besides running it hard and seeing if water goes into the crankcase, is to do a cooling system pressure check.

Seems like he would have called when he found ice in the block if he thought it was too late

I'm shure if there was a problem he would have told you right away, you can get by with just a " tad" of ice. I know if I found one like that I'd inform ya right away unless it was not a big problem. I would still let ya know there was some ice as I wouldn't want to be liable if by chance there is some damage in the spring. I'd say not to worry, give em a call when you can

Can't assume anything. If there was ice in the block, most mechanics would take a look at the side of the block for visible cracks while draining it. That's what the mechanic can see. What he can't see is cracks in the intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and internally in the block.

Cross your fingers, and regularly check your oil in the spring....

Too late now, if there is damage it is already done, unless you want potential repairs to happen during the winter months..........Don
