Idea for cabin walls/ceiling

While redoing my stringers, decking, and transom in my Capri I've ripped out all the carpet in the cabin. It smelled bad and I'd imagine it would be impossible to get half-clean of all the fiberglass dust.

Anyway, I've got like 20 yards of blue and light beige vinyl to redo my seats and stuff with. I got thinking, could I cut wood panels to fit the sides and ceiling of the cabin (like 1/8'' plywood or something) with maybe an inch of padding and wrapped in vinyl? And attach them by epoxy-ing several bolts for each to the hull to act as a stud and holding them in place with nuts? I figure these plywood/padding/vinyl panels won't really weigh much at all and won't get wet. For cosmetic purposes and to keep from embedding a nut/bolt in my head I'd cut off the excess and fit a "button" (you know what I mean, right?)

My mom is excellent and working with vinyl and did a great job so far with my jumpseats. Could probably make some cool pattern with it too. I think it would be pretty cool. Any comments? Aside from carpet what else do you guys do for cuddy cabin interiors?

I think it sounds like a great idea. You might want to either have some "wings" welded to the bolt heads or find some bolts with a wing shaped head so that there's less possibilty of them spinning. And of coarse stainless is the way to go.

that's a good idea...would give more surface area to epoxy the bolt to the hull

You can buy velcro that has a sticky side to it. stick one side to frame and the other to padded board. If you do not trust the sticky side use a little epoxy glue. Makes a neat removable job

you suppose a ton of industrial Velcro will hold up the panels? Seems plausible

I think its a great idea however I'm not to friendly to Velcro (I personally just don't like/trust the stuff)

i do not suggest alot of padding, as it will eventually absorb moisture, and mildew, and smell. not moisture from being exposed to water. condensation from hot to cold, cold to hot.
