I was planning on making a fish cleaning/fresh produce cleaning station for outdoors. What I am looking at is using a old counter top with old stainless sinks and cold water hooked to the faucets by a water hose. Place the whole thing on a rock work support with room underneath the sinks for 5 gallon buckets. Has anyone made such a thing? Any better ideas or plans? A picture of your station would be great. Thanks

Sounds like youve got a good idea already.Just be sure to put it away from the house a ways if possible, try to bag all heads and guts, and clean up what you can when your done cleaning fish.Or expect alot of flies and hungry, rowdy nightly visitors of all kinds that may do damage to your abode, cats, possums, foxes and RACOONS!!Did you know big Racoons can open coolers just like bears?:eek:I didnt, and bloody coon pawprints wont wash off weathered decking boards.

If your using a laminate counter top that uses particle board as the foundation, you will have to seal all exposed ends or it will swell and disintegrate when exposed to rain or sink water. If your lucky and have laminate on plywood,it will last longer, but should still be sealed.Sounds like a great idea, good luck.

I didn't really consider the critter factor. Thanks!
I don't think I will be able to seal a laminate counter top well enough to keep the elements from destroying it. Leaning toward finding a chipped or old discarded marble counter top. Will the marble top put up with the elements?
Also thinking or running a underground power cable to the station to maybe install lights, and a receptacle for a electric fillet knife.
Maybe a rain covering of some sort?
Still up in the air trying to decide.

The Corps of engineers boat landings I've used often have a small screen house, with a concrete floor and a drain, a plastic composite table with a couple of holes and garbage cans under them, said table being on stainless legs embedded in the concrete. A short water hose and a light are provided.

They seem to be easy to keep clean, as even in hot weather and heavy use they aren't too bad to work in. I'm sure the cans get dumped several times a day and it gets hosed down frequently by both maintenance and the users.

If you are running power to it, follow all local codes and if the code does not specify GFI protection, do it anyway.
Liquid-tite or equivalent fittings would not be a bad idea as well.

Electric fillet knife?
Not sure that I'd want 110V attached to my knife in that environment...

You may want to build a small elevated deck to stand on to keep your shoes cleaner as ground can get wet when cleaning alot of fish. Some decking boards attached to treated 4x4 or landscape timber bases Just laid on the ground, and try to locate it where theres some naturale slope to drain water from the area.I think an untreated piece of 2x10,12 makes a great cheap,if you find some scrap, cutting /filleting board thats easy to wash off. mount it hanging over the edge of the top slightly and you can easily use all of the fillet knife blade as you can run the handle right to the edge of the board as opposed to bending the blade to get it flat to the board

Find yourself a restraunt supplier and see if they don't have some old commerical stainless steel counters / sinks laying around. Don't have to worry about sealing anything. A cheap nylon cutting board works well for a cutting surface.
