I picked this boat up last week. I am trying to figure out what the Year is. Plate says its a Raven 190. I would like to find out what motor and outdrive is in it so I can try to find a service manual. Can't seem to be able to upload pics

Welcome aboard.

You need to have 3 posts before unlocking picture attachments.. However, if you use Photobucket or an other photo hosting service, you can paste pics into you message.

Look at the Forum Help link in the sig below and look at the Photo post tutorial. The Photobucket IMG code pasting method works well. #3 I think.

Any paperwork with the new boat? Does it have HIN number on the upper starboard stern?

Does the motor and out-drive have anything written on it at all?

Thanks for helping me out. On the drive are these numbers- Model# 981061 Serial# W147665 This is kind of a project for me and my boys. The motor turns over
and the drive lifts up and down. There is a small motor on the drivers side of the engine. Its on top of what looks to me to be a hyd. pump. Not quite sure what that is for. One guy told me for the motor mounts, but its broken. The top of the armature is off and in bad shape. Thanks again

Welcome aboard:

You can check the boat for a Hull Identification Number: if your boat is post '72, it should be stamped into the hull on the stern just below the rub rail. It should also be in your paperwork. Generally, the last numbers identify the year.

What color is the outdrive? The Model Number you listed sounds like an OMC, but I can't place it to the drive. OMCs are typically white, and the model number is usually on the engine, not the drive. Many people mistake the part number on the upper gear case for the drive model.

Like GA listed ... pictures would be our best help.

This is the engine that's now in our Sea Ray (connected to Merc hardware)---It's out of a 1984 Bayliner, had about 150 hours on it-- I paid $600 for it complete, pretty much stole it...;) --to the best of my knowledge it was a stringer drive--

--notice on the lower right, is a motor driven hydraulic pump, is that what yours looks like? This one IS for the motor mounts, it's how you trim a stringer drive.

This pic is of the serial numbers on the valve cover, it's a "98" number too, so I'm about 99% sure yours is an OMC....

Thanks for getting back to me. It looks alot like that but its mounted on the other side in the front. It is a OMC 190. When I'm looking for parts do I
ask for a trim pump? If that is not in operation will that mean I shouldn't use the boat until I have replaced it? I would like to get it out and see if there are more problems. I want to get the mechanical fixed before I start working on interior and paint. Thanks again

Do you know what year it is? I think it's gotta' be around '77 or older. I ran my stringer without trim (some of them didn't have it as an option) for a few years. I manually moved it to a spot I thought would work, and it ran just fine.

Thanks to everyone for the help. It is a 1977 OMC Raven 190. Got it fired up yesterday and it ran great with one problem. One of the freeze plugs was out so I had water going all over. Of course it had to be one right behind a motor mount. Oh ya I found a trim motor it was used but I'll take what I can get. Thanks again
