I recently picked up an older Johnson/Evinrude outboard.I was told that it is a 115.I noticed that the tilt/trim isnt original and was from a 1973 85hp.This motor is an electric shift outboard, and came with the Evinrude controls. It runs like a champ and looks to be rebuilt not too long ago.My question is, is there any identifying parts/numbers that could help me decipher this engine? Normally it wouldnt bother me, but if it is indeed anything lower than a 115hp, it wont be big enough for my boat.I have another 1976 115hp on my tri-hull and these motors looks similar, and the hoods on both say 115.Thanks in advance.

Re: identification help

Normally the model number is on a plate on the mounting bracket. May not be the right number for a "bitsa" though.

There may be a disc on the power head with the model number on. About 3/4" diameter

I found a small silver disk located on the power head.It reads J3342095.

Re: identification help

Unfortunately not the model number.

It looks like the serial number. Some people have sufficient info to give you an approx year from that but a dealer should be able to give you the exact year.
