Identify these wires? Picture attached

I was doing a once over on the boat and started investigating my trim issues.

I noticed two wires with male ends just hanging out unplugged. I followed the wires and they went through the transom and what looked to be down into the stern drive.

Anybody know where they plug back into? I searched for a bit but came up empty.

Headed back out there now...

Thanks!

From where did you follow them? Do they return to the steering console? Or did they originate from outside the transom?

Better, more, information leads to better answers.

I believe that's your trim limit switch leads. Does your trim UP work now?

Trim up works but before it would stop before going into the trailer mode. I would then have to use the trailer button to get the stern all the way up.

Now I can just use the trim up button to bring the stern all the way up.

Maybe they forgot to hook something back up when it was in the shop?

Bitterboater - I followed them from the male end to the transom. I figured they ended somewhere in the stern drive so I ended following them. I did notice a pair of wires consistent to the wires I followed that led to a hook up where the circuit breaker red switch is. I'll go recheck and see if that could be the same pair of wires.

I agree with wire2. Those wires are attached to a switch that opens when the trim limit is reached. That's why you can now raise the drive to the trailer position with the trim up switch.

You wouldn't happen where they plug in at would you?

I imagine somewhere around the trim pump area. I checked it over last night and didn't see any spot for them to plug into. I'll be back at it today looking for a spot.

Thanks for the help everyone! This site rocks!

Those wires are either the trim limit switch, the trim sender, or do nothing.

If they were the limit switch, you trim would not work at all unless the leads the switch is supposed to plug into are shorted together. Maybe why you can't see anywhere to plug them in.
On the opposite side of the limit switch on the gimbal housing is a trim sender for a trim guage.

But sometimes they don't install the sender, just the wires going to the hockey puck shaped thing but alas it has no guts....

If you setup does not have a trim guage, then this is likely what has been done.

Yeah, I've got things that are not plugged in either. Check the connector dangling below the BRP (big red plug). I think it depends on the application what gets used. This apparently is not used, or maybe it's for service?

Figured it out!

Looks like when it was at the Marina getting repaired, they installed a jumper that connected both of the female ends together leaving both of the male ends hanging loose.

Once I saw that, I remembered the Marina mention to me that some of the wiring was looking old but then we never went back to talking about it.

I plugged both the loose male ends back in and now the trim stops at its upper limit. I now can use the trailer button to bring the trim all the way up.

I don't know why they jumped it if everything still works fine. I could see the trailer button no longer working so they could install the jumper, but if it was not broken, then why a jumper?

I do appreciate everyone's help with this. Even though this stuff can be a frustration at times, it is worth it. It's also enjoyable being able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air while tinkering with toys lol
