1967 (so far from what I can tell)
1%8 ( [not a mistype] as found in the motor manual I have currently) so I believe it's a "Half year" motor

my cowl says "Electric" but I have begun to question that.

it is my understanding that if it was "Electric" that it should not engage gears with the battery disconnected.
(1968-69 and up Defaults to FWD, previous years Defaults to Neutral [Correct?] )

Today just sitting in the yard I have disconnected the battery, engaged Fwd/Rev, and it has engage gears in the lower end preventing the prop from spinning. (Free spinning in neutral)

Would that mean I have a Type 2 manual style lower unit instead of the type 3 electromatic?

So then a type 2 lower end is confirmed.

what might my cowl be refering to as "Electric".

I have electric choke, start, and that's about it. Other then the ignition system.

Believe it or not.----Outboards were expensive back then.------People had bigger arms and shoulders back then.------Many of those motors were sold as manual start with a recoil.-----Electric start was a feature worth putting on the cowling !!

Ahhh!! That all makes sense then, I had only really seen a difference between the shifting stuff so I assumed it had to do with shifting or the choke. So now that all makes sense! Thank you!!
