I just purchased an old Evinrude. the only numbers I could find were 4178-0652. This was on a plate that was just below the engine. It has a small 2 blade prop. Open rope pully to start it. Took some of it apart to get to the spark plugs and found that there were 4. It took 2 different size scokets to get them out. Could not find any other # any where. Would you think that the # I have is the serial #
Square gas tank.
Tell me what I could do to find out what it is or where to look foe a model #
Thanks Jeff

It is a 1936 9.2 HP. The 4178 is the Model number and 0652 is the serial number

An early Lightfour! Nice! They are funky/spunky motors! Not the easiest carbs to work on, but doable if you're patient...

And from what I've heard they are anything but "Light".
Good Luck with it.
