I was getting my boat ready! You know all this **** we do that we really don't need to do, but we do cuz we are fired up about going. I have a Merc 25Jet 2 stroke 98! This motor has extremely low hours and for two years starts like a champ and throws my little 1448 Modified around great. I made a pretty rich mix (a little heavy on the oil) I always do. But this time I saw I had a jug of Marvels Mystery oil And though why not. I added about 3 onces of mystery oil to 4 gallons of two stroke marine mix for my outboard. After I ran the boat for a little and used the fuel already in the lines I noticed the motor running rough. The more it ran the worse it got. Then I actually had to run the motor will the full choke to get it to run right and get me back in. Has this happened before to any body? Is 3 ounces to much for this mix. Do you recommend using Marvels in a two Stroke? When I got home I pulled the plugs they were a little hot looking but not at all fowled. The fuel filter had a bunch of debree in it, but nothing I could see causing a blockage. I think the mix was the problem. I have always heard to much just smokes more, but this didn't smoke to much just did not like the new gas. Looking for help

Re: Idiot gas mix

Hi,

I would not use it in my engines. It is a high detergent oil that may have phosphorous in to do the cleaning. If it does it will wear your bearings and piston skirts out. This is "not a fact", just an assumption of mine. I have seen oils turn to a gel like material when mixed too. This may account for your rough running or it was just the freak timming of the whole thing.

agreed, do not continue to use this, and i would almost pul the exaust cover off and check out your pistons and maybe even do a compression test hopefully you didnt do any damage :S

Re: Idiot gas mix

Additional oil actually LEANS the fuel mixture, raising combustion temps.

I wouldn't risk an engine on a 'What If?' idea.

Ya think there was any reasoning for OEM's dictating the use of TCW-3 rated oil?

Save the Marvel Oil to lube up your air tools, it works great.

Re: Idiot gas mix

Thank you for all the replies I guess it is a unanimous decision Marvels is no good for 2 cycle engines. I am going to make a new mix using the correct amount and go from there. The motor ran fine with me manually working the choke so I really don't think it is an engine problem. More of a fuel or carb issue now. Just so I have it right, you guys mix 50-1 perfectly and thats that. SO many guys have told me go heavy the worst thing that can happen is smoke. I geuss they where blowing smoke!

Re: Idiot gas mix

Just to update. Threw the old gas in my truck and re mixed a new 6 gallons exactly 50-1 . Added the right amount of stabl and it fired right up and ran great. This motor is the real deal just doesn't like Marvels Mystery. Lessoned learned thanks
