I am really at the end of my rope with this. I have a Mercruiser 250 (350 CID)(5.7L) I have replaced the carb and distributer (they were automotive) and for awhile she would idle just fine with one expection. I was never able to get the idle ajustment quite right, but she ran smooth. Took her out for a test run and had no problems. Then a few days later took her out for another test run. got about 1/2 mile then she died, would only restart at about 1/4 throttle, ran really rough and bearly got back to my slip. after I tied her up I could not get her to idle without turning the idle speed screew all the way in and even then she would die below 800 RPM.

is she flooding? is it possible the float is stuck, or something else.

I really do not feel like pulling the carb down if not necessary.

Could be the carb, could be filters, fuel pump or other things. Have you had someone work the throttle while you watch to see if it is getting gas?

I checked that clear plastic tube that goes from the pump to the carb and nothing comes out of it, that means that the pump is good, it think, right?

would a stuck float do the same thing?

The clear plastic tube is not what sends gas to the carb. In the very front there is a metal line that goes into a nut which goes into a bigger nut which goes into the carb. There is also a filter in there. Unscrew the small nut and pull out the gas line. Stick that line in a bottle and turn over the motor and see if there is a good flow of gas. Maybe you know someone who can help you do this

the book said that the clear plactic tube runs from the fuelpump to the carb and if fuelis present means that one of the diaphrams has failed and fuel is on the wrong side. At least that is the way i understand it.

That is correct. Did you check the gas to the carb?
