I've got a 1990ish 2.3 OMC
It's run ok on and off
Lately it runs fine, dies won't start
I've got the timing close to spec at 900 rpm son the muffs, it won't idle at lower Rpms without stalling.
Ignition was upgraded to some sort of Petronix pointless system
Questions;
Does the Petronix require a different coil?

Is 900 to high Rpms on the muffs, will it drop into the 600s under load on the water?

Any ideas where to look for the rough idle problem?

Can the timing belt jump a tooth?

Not an OMC dude but I'll offer some thoughts.
Most of the Petronix ignition change overs does require an internal resistor coil instead of an external one, would need to know which one you have.
Having trouble running at lower idle and/or rough idle is an issue with either the carb, timing or low compression.
I would suggest starting with a compression test to check the health of your engine

I checked the idle mixture screws today, back side screw was almost bottomed out, a couple minutes messing with the screws and it's getting so much better
I'll run a compression check, thanks
