Idle/Acceleration problems when Electronic Primer in Run Mode

My 1984 35hp Johnson seems to only idle and accelerate decently when the Red Lever points away from the solenoid which should be 'manual mode'. In 'run mode' where the red lever points to the bottom of the solenoid - pressing the key switch in will prime the intake, the motor will start and run briefly then sputter/sneeze and die. The carb and fuel pump have been cleaned and rebuilt with kits. Now I'm trying to figure out if I have a problem with the Electric Primer or if my issues are elsewhere. Any guidance would be appreciated.

The carb still has some crud in it, it needs to be cleaned thoroughly.

Agreed revisit the carburetor cleaning,-----There is a high speed jet screwed into the carburetor bowl.----That threaded item about 5/8" long must be removed via the drain plug hole.
