I have a 98 Force 120 on a Fisher 18' alum. fish and ski. The idle is speratic and is a pain. It starts fine, but the idle rises to a point, and then drops quickly like it is going to die and then rises quickly again. It acts like it reaches a rev limit and cuts out and then drops about 600 rpm. It runs great otherwise, except the rpm tops out at 4750, when the plate on the motor says max rpm 5250. I don't know where the idle is supposed to be on top. I have an aluminum 21 3 blade and a stainless turbo 20 4 blade. They both run about 4750 on top, but the four blade is quicker out of the hole. My main concern is the idle problem. I am pretty experienced working on snowmobile crabs etc, but have never had this problem. Thanks for any help. Justin

Re: idle problems/ top end rpm? 98 120 Force

had the same problem with my 120 hp.turn out it was the stator.stator puts out high and low voltage.my engine would not idle for ****. tryed to adjust the carb's,played with the linkage no good.the next time your engine won't idle check the cylinder and see if all are fireing. if all cylinders are fireing try to close the low speed jet's and see if engine stalls.if all cylinders are fireing and low speed jet's won't stall the engine ,i think it would be time to rebuild the carb's. :)
