I have A Merc Classic 50 snOB170606. It will idle for a few minutes and then dies. It runs fine at top end. Can up throttle in neutral to keep running but when you but in gear and advance throttle it dies. If i unhook gas line it idles ok and i can put it back on and it will then take fuel and accelerate. Am i getting too much gas in carb while idling? I have heard that choke can cause this problem. I want to be sure i have checked everything before i tear into carbs. Thanks.

Re: Idle Problems

It could be that the fuel pump is pushing past one of the needles in the carb.

TMD

Re: Idle Problems

Try adjusting fuel/air mixture jets first.
What I do with mine is set the jets in gear at a an idle while tied to the dock. If it stays running there it is close enough to go out and have fun. I would try this before going into the carbs, fuel pump etc. Might get lucky ;)
