I recently purchased a used 2003 Merc 30 4-stroke. It is the carberated motor, not the fuel injected version. The motor is "clunking" into gear a bit harder than I would like, and I suspect the it is idling too high. I don't yet have a shop manual for this motor.... does anyone have the spec for the motor speed at idle? Thanks for any info!

Re: Idle RPM for Merc 30 4-stroke

Hi GotFish,
from my Mercury service manual for
30/40 fourstroke carbureted engines,
Nov 2001.
Specifications for idle speed are for
a warm engine, in the water.

Idle RPM (out of gear) 900 +/- 25 rpm
Idle RPM (in forward gear) 800 +/- 25 rpm

slightly older than your engine, but I
am sure it still applies.
Good luck,
Don
