Hello

Im from Denmark, and Im trying through this page, to find some one, who can help me, about some problems with my Evinrude 60Hp VRO from 1990.
I did bye this motor (and boat) last year. And my first trip with this motor was very very bad.
After few min. it start to run very rough, like there was choker on, and I could only let it run with 1/3 power. And if I put on idle, the motor just went dead ? I did then sent it to my local marine workshop. And they told me, that there was not 100% signal from the Power Pack (18-5766)to one of the cyl. So they changed the Power Pack and plugs. But it did not help. Then I did find out, by my self, that my gasolin-tank needed air (there was wacoum in the tank). So I did make a new air-hole in the tank.
That did work, and the motor can now run with full power, with out problems, but it will still not idle (maby cab.adjustmen ?) So my question here is, how can I find out, if a power pack is bad ? Is it right, that a power pack can send a weak signal out to only one cyl, and a good signal to the other two cyl. ?
And how can I find out, that my old Power Pack is good or bad ?
Best Regards from
DUKE3
Denmark

Re: Idle speed

I would say start with a compression check and see how many pounds are on each cylinder. If your gas tank wasn’t vented then there is a good chance you were running the motor lean. The motor wasn’t able to “suck” in enough gas at higher speeds. A compression test can tell you a lot about a motor. Also I’m not sure what brand or type of gas tank you are using but most tanks have a screw type fitting on top of the gas cap that allows you to open it to vent the tank. As far as the power pack goes someone else may be better to answer that.

And it could only run with apx. 1/3 power, otherwice it keept stalling, or dies if lower power.
I did then stop, and changed the Power Pack unit to the new one. Then the motor starts fine, but after few min. at full speed it starts stalling again. And if I put it at iddle speed, it just went dead after 2-3 sec.
The carburator hase been adjusted, there are new spark plugs, gazolin filter is clean, there is new gazolin in the tank, there is no wacoum in the tank, and the handpump from the gazolin-tank hase just been renewed. So why will this motor not run at full speed after few min. and why does dies after few sec. when it is put in iddle pos. ??? Please please please help !!!!!!!!!!!
Best Regards from
DUKE3
Denmark
