I have a 150 Black Max. What does the Idle Stabilizer do? While replacing the gaskets on the fuel pump I noticed the red/white wire had melted and become very brittle. I cut out the bad wire and replaced it with a new wire. What would cause the wire to over heat?

Any help would be appriciated.

Re: Idle Stabilizer

If your idle speed falls below a certain threshhold, it advances the timing about 6 degrees. I believe the module on the black max also advances the timing at 5000 rpm, and retards it at 5800 rpm.

A properly tuned engine has no need for any of that, and in fact the add on modules tend to be a source of trouble. Mercury doesn't even list a part number for them because most have found a new home in the chit can.

hope it helps
