My 91 evinrude 225 manual states idle should be
6atdc but after sync and link and all adjustments it still runs high about 1000rpm. I wanted to know if anyone ran this motor at a diffrent setting and if any adverse effects could come of this?

Re: Idle timing

we set these motors up to run at 500 rpms in gear all the time for the slow trollers with no ill effects, it has to be done with the idle timming, and must be done in the water in gear.

have fun

Re: Idle timing

elwilliams13, set the idle to specs in the manual by backing off the timing to the figure stated. They usually give a range, example 650 +/- 50. Go as low as you can without it "sneezing back", and as stated, in fwd gear, boat moving........ :)
The idle timing figure is really irrelevant, as it's only a starting point.
