Sometimes with an outgoing tide I am forced to idle out in gear to deeper water, trimmed way up. How bad is this?

By trimmed all the way up - do you mean "trimmed" up - or all the way "trailer" up? Trimmed up is fine - trailer up, not so much.

As long as the prop is fully submerged, you'll be ok.
What outdrive? If it's an OMC "Stringer" do not go more than idle.

As long as you don't exceed the trim limit via the standard 'trim' button. If you use that button and nothing was rigged up to bypass the limit sensor, you are good.

Trouble arises if you use the trailer trim button to exceed the trim limit or if you have a setup that bypasses the normal trim limit.

(The trailer trim exceeds the safe operating range for the drive. Hey, you can stress the joints too much under any kind of power).

I'm into the trailer up but not completly maxed out. It's a bravo 2.
