1981 Merc inboard o/o 120 hp starts and idles fine when I move throttle forward or backward it’s not accelerating possibly a cable ?? Ran fine the other day

Sounds like broken/disconnected throttle cable. Pull the engine hatch and watch the carb throttle connection while you move the shift lever.
