Just finished the transom, stringers and floor replacement on my 21' trophy. This was my first time ever rebuilding a boat. If I had it to do over again I would change the way I did some things. First, I would not use epoxy resin with medium hardener in 50 - 60 degree weather. I should have gone with the fast hardener. the medium stuff just takes forever to kick off. Second, I would spend more time working with the wood, rounding corners, making sure there are no large gaps, etc. By spending 4-5 extra hours on this, I would have saved twice that when it came to glassing it all in. Third, I would have made sure that no matter how small of a spot of glass that I need to sand, I would put on the respirator and glasses. And last but not least, I would protect my arms from the resin. I got so much resin on my arms that by the time I was done, all I had to do is get one tiny spot on me and my arms would break out in a rash. Oh yea, I almost forgot, Thanks to everyone here with past and current posts that helped me thru this project.
