Hello
I hope this is okay to post here.
WE have a 40 ELPTO Mercury currently on our pontoon. Near my buddies house guy has a 70 Evinrude up for sale. Looked nice and in good shape eyeballing it. Didn't get a chance to see it started up yet. Going back.
My question is if the engine is good and price is right what other things do I need to do to replace the Mercury with this engine. ? Things I might need to purchase ?

Thanks
Mark

Well to start with, the remote control including shift/throttle cables and electrical. Then the question comes up, what kind of steering do you have?

Fuel and steering should be easy to adapt. The control cables are not compatible. The wiring could be grafted, but it is messy.

If the Rude includes control and harness, a swap should be a piece of cake.

Make sure you do a compression test, check the lower unit oil and take it for a test ride.
