Just had a thought. Was in electrics and the guy from SC's Avatar showed a toon full of folks and he (I guess) was standing up....obviously he was having fun.

So what is YOUR boat to you? I bet we get some interesting replies.

Mine, over the years, have been my recreation; pretty much my only recreation. Wife and I raised our kiddo's "on the water"....like we'd fish on Saturday and after church on Sunday it was load up the picnic lunch and the skiis and back to the lake as soon as we could get our clothes changed. That went on for 10's of years.

In the summer we'd load up 2 vehicles with vacation toys (one vehicle couldn't carry it all and 4 kids, and off to grandma's who just happened to have a "lake house" of all things.

Now, after 10 years of thinking that there was something else in life, it's back with another boat and now my son buys one......said that I taught him to love the water. 8)

Re: If your Home's your Castle, What's your boat?

When our kids were growing up, we had a pick-up camper and a boat trailed behind it. We had that camper all over the U.S. and the boat over most of it. Our kids were raised on the water and campgrounds every available day off. Where does my son take his boys for recreation? Yep, camping. He can't afford a boat, but there's no water where he lives now anyhow.

Looking back, my parents took me all over creation and boating and fishing also.

At the risk of sounding too religious, I would also hasten to add that like Mark said, every Sunday was Church first. Even in the campgrounds. Even if no "real" Church around, we had Church. Then we took the boat out.

sanity, like PJ , Tasha & I have been known to sit in one or other of the boats for hours, me a couple of beers, Tasha some dog bones. if you can get to the water, you can pretend to be anchored.

sometimes we just launch and go 1 1/2 miles down the river and anchor. throw out a pole and enjoy the serenity, and get ours heads and body refreshed. if we catch something , OK.

This is a no brainer for me; she is my mistress. Mrs. QC would agree . . .

Re: If your Home's your Castle, What's your boat?

It means quality family time to me with my wife and 5 children. They now range from 18 to 23 years old. Special times with all of them. With my wife, going to dinner at a local marina and a leisurely cruise to home marina. With the boys (3) of them. Going out ski-ing and tubing with the occasional fishing trip. With the daughters (2) of them. Early morning fishing with the one and just blasting around with the other one. We now have boyfriends and girlfriends on the scene as well so there is a constant demand for boating trips. The great thing about it though is that they all want to include "the parents" each time. It is party central at our marina most weekends with the boat coming back to pick up the next trip !!! and everyone else at the marina just enjoying the weather and the company. We are at a very nice but smallish marina where everyone is treated like family. Big BBQ at the dock at the end of the day always goes down well.
Our boat is like a "glue" that keeps the family together although we all have our own agendas in life as well.
Best thing of all was my 20 year old daughters christmas card last christmas that said " Dad you are the greatest" I love to spend time with you fishing and boating, it is the best father, daughter thing ever" and please never let it stop !!!
I am not ashamed to admit that I had a lot of tears in my eyes after I read that and just how proud of our children that we are.
What would we do without the boat ????
I can not imagine !!!!

this week i stole an old waverunner, so i can go tow the kids in when they kill theirs. 1993 only 32 hp, but enough for me, looks and runs like new. i'm too old to run 60 mph on the water with nothing between me and the water. our family is a water born family also.

Good for you. Looks like a lot of fun. My next door neighbour has had one sitting at the side of the house for the last 2 years without moving. I am thinking of asking him if he still wants it !!

I always wanted to name one of my boats, " L'autre Femme" "The Other Woman". Need I say more?

A place for me to get away. I enjoy just drifting around the lake and fishing. If I catch a fish it makes it better, if I don't I could care less.

Kenny you got me teared up too. Hear what you say man.

I too sit in my boat (over the years, all of them), on the trailer, have a couple of beers, and just think of all the fun we have had, and plan the next outing.

Tas, I need to show you a pic of my dog. They have got to be sisters. I wouldn't mind taking mine along but I don't know what she'd do. She is so excitable and full of energy. She likes to jump in my lap and lick me in the face then jump down, run a lap around the house and back in the lap.....panting and do it over again.

Agree with you guys on it being a nice place to relax, fish or not.

QC, glad the wife understands.

Ken, Talking about taking trips reminds me of our first boat. Had to do the same thing to get the family from the dock to the camping place as it was only 13' and there were 6 of us.

Enjoyed the replies. Hope to read more.

Yup. Me too. I even take my laptop out there and a phone and work while sitting imagining I'm on the water . . .

Mark, I hear you with the trips thing. We have thought about a bigger boat but we all love this one and if we did go bigger then I would have to get something bigger to tow it with. The children all seem to want to keep this one for sentimental reasons as well. They all stood up on ski's for the first time behind it, Tubed for the first time behind it, feel at home driving it and pulling the siblings along behind them and they know its every little quirk. So it stays with us for the foreseeable future.
We have a border collie that just loves boating so there is another one in the loop for taking turns. Take your dog out for a ride Mark and see. You can see a few photos of my crowd in the Doral section under family fun. Not everyone is there but my 20 year old daughter, my 18 year old son and the dog are there. I will be posting more when I can find them.
Mark. What a great thread to start. WTG !!!

Re: If your Home's your Castle, What's your boat?

My boat to me is family and friend fun to me. My family takes the boat out about every other weekend during the spring, summer and fall. Living in the south is great because we can use the boat from April through October- with swimming from May through September.

I don't know what we'd do without the boat. It is the family time for everyone - and my buddies envy each time we take her out. The boat is my friend, my family and my pasttime. Even if I spend too much money keeping her up and adding new toys to the boat, it's paid for ten fold with the fun my family and friends have. It IS my fun. Without a doubt. I LOVE MY BOAT!!!

Freedom, Adventure, great friends and great times....

My days on the water started with my grand parents fishing in northern Minn. Fishing, water skiing, and just exploring...

...Many moves and many miles later, the water still has a powerful influence on what I do with my time...

From those early days in Minnesota, to Florida, Maine to Maui...Today, Lake Michigan...chasing king salmon...

...And more Adventure...

Re: If your Home's your Castle, What's your boat?

I inherited my holiday house next to the river from my grandfather, I basically grew up on the water there, got on the ski's when I was 4, and my first boat at 7, since then I have been collecting boats, never got rid of any ..... it is my little piece of paradise, hence my place is called "little paradise", I try to go every second weekend to just get away ..........
