iginition or carb prob?

I got 50hp mariner and it will not open up. It goes about 5 to 7 mph, runs great on trailer in back yard but bogs down in the water. Any suggestions?

Plugged carb jet or bad stator? On my 90hp I6 it turned out to be the stator. Best I could do was about 7-8 mph. Did the cheap thing first and rebuilt the carbs with no change. Replaced the stator and that was the trick.

Wondering if it stalls at all when you open it up??

just goes very slowly til floods out

These engines love fuel so even a bad carb will give you better performance then your getting. Test the stator, I'll bet it's shot.
