IGN. TIMING

I need to know what the timing is to be set at<br />on a 85 hp Chrysler outboard, mod. 859HA.

bring #1 cyl. to top dead center then check to see if the 36 degree mark on the flywheel is lined up with the neg 4 or the 32 degree mark on the timing pointer. <br /><br />if its not turn the fly wheel the direction of rotaton till it lines up then remove distributor belt and turn distributor untill thematch marks line up with the curv of the flywheel then reinstall belt and adjust delt to no more than a half inch of slack

HLJ...I would get a manual and set it the way they recommend. Depending on what ignition you have...points or preamplifier, you can set the timing with the motor off and a timing light...it has always worked out good for me. I think the 85 hp calls for 32 btdc, but I would not go more than 30...just a Thought
