Engine cranks but dies as soon as starter is released.Does not seem to be the switch.Hot wire from switch is still hot at engine. Can turn key on then go back & start engine at solenoid & it does the same thing.Engine starts & runs til you release solenoid.Very strange.Need help. Thanks for all help so far,but nothing has worked yet.

Well, allrigty then....
It's time to get funky and technical on it!
Turn the key in the "run" position, and see if you have 12volts between negative and the white wire at the switch. It will be on the 'F" terminal of the ignition switch. If 12VDC is missing, disconnect the battery.
Set the meter to the ohms scale ,and check for continuity between "A" and "F" on the back of the ignition switch when it is in "ON", and no continuity in "OFF".
If not, replace the ignition switch, if you do, and you had 12 volts , then the switchbox may be bad, but not likely. They ]do fail, but it's more likely,a bad connection. Look for corrosion at all the terminals ,especially the white wire from "F".

I'm not real sure but I think that engine needs 12VDC from the switch to run. I'd be real suspecious of the switch itself.

c/6

Hooty
