Im wondering if anyone knows how I might remedy my sticking choke (ignition choke). I have an 85 HP Force. It trys to work but it only actually fully engages about 1 out of a hunderd times so I have to manually do it( take off the cover and have someone hold it down) while starting it. Any ideas to save me time or money? Appreciate any suggestions,<br />Thank you, Carp

Re: ignition choke sticks

Check for 13VDC between the yellow wire (going to the choke solenoid) and motor's frame, when someone activates the choke. If you got 12-15VDC, you're cool with the switch, power, and wiring, but have a defective choke solenoid, providing it moves freely mechanically speaking. If the linkage is sticky, or is dificult to operate manually with little effoprt from your pinky finger, check out why before changing out the solenoid.

Another suggestion would be to look at adjusting the choke rod. I had a similar problem with my 85 Force when I first got it. Occassionally, it would not close all the way. You would just hear it engage, but not actually click down. There are three screws on the right side which attach to the choke. Loosen them and make any needed adjustments.
