I don't know if it is a sign that ignition coil needs to be replaced.
While I am starting the boat the 2 contacts (positive and negative) on the ignition coil produce a spark.

Also, I am looking for a reasonable price on a carburetor for a 1988 3.0L Mercruiser. I think I still have the original 2 barrel Rochester Carb.
Could anyone suggest a good place to purchase the carb?

Thank you.

Not sure about the contacts. Have you tried rebuilding the carb?

Well, I am thinking about getting a new one. It should be abound $250 new. It will cost $150 to do the rebuild.

I hope you run your bilge blower a good long time before starting. Sparks in the engine compartment can be fatal. As Bondo says, no sparks!

Sparks around the coil contacts are usually caused by hairline cracks on the center tower. Only cure is new coil and wire.
Rick

You shouldn't operate the boat unti you get it fixed. The boat could blow up. Gas is heavier than air and settles right down into the engine compartment as it has no where else to go. If the level gets high enough the spark will ignite the fumes.

I use an automotive coil in my boat, the one i found was the same specs as the one i took out. Only thing i did different was coat it in corrosion inhibitor to keep it from rusting and such. Haven't had a problem yet, knock on wood.
