Ignition Coil Help

I’ve searched the internet for a Johnson/Evinrude 0584451 ignition coil (9.9 HP 4-Stroke Johnson) with no luck.

My question, the Johnson 0583740 coil is also a duel coil, but it has duel primary terminal instead of the single terminal post on the 5884451. I’m wondering if I spliced another wire onto the current single terminal wire and then connected the wires to both 583740 terminals if it would work as a replacement coil?

Sierra 18-5179, for example, has the two more prominent secondary connections (coil wire) and two lower primary (power pack). Isn't that what you need?

On small 4 strokes both plugs fire at the same time.----Therefor an $$$$ coil with just one input was used.------That coil has not been available for some time just like many parts for newer motors.-----I believe there is a kit available for these.

The on-line cost for the 584451 replacement kit, (584451-KIT) is between $135 and $155. In viewing this kit it appears they are using the 583740 coil which sells for around $40, and adding a secondary bracket and splicing an extra wire for the coil's additional primary terminal. I haven't been able to find the specs for the 583740 coil so I'm not 100% sure this coil is actually the coil they are using in the kit.

Oldboat Admiral, my original coil has two plug posts and just a single primary wire connection ... Sierra 18-5179 only has a single plug post. I might be able to build a bracket, splice my primary wire, and then use two of the 18-5179 coils if they match the voltage I need. It would be cleaner if the 583740 would work. Thank you for your suggestion. [h=1][/h]

From your question I thought you were looking for a replacement coil. I didn't know that price was an issue . Is the 583740 coil that you want to use for a 4 stroke motor? EDIT. The price for the original coil for your motor was 180$. So maybe the kit is not too bad.
