Still new here with a 2nd post (having 2 different issues)....... Is it normal for the ignition coil to be hot to the touch when the key is in the run position? Thisis a 4cyl thats about as much as I know about the motor. Though its on a 1985 25' Bayliner.....
Thanks again for any help on this matter....

Coils always get fairly hot with the key on and the engine not running, they also get pretty warm when running.

What's your problem? other than wanting to know coil temps.

Why would you turn the key on and not run the engine? If you are using that "ON" position to power something else, I suggest you rewire your setup to not need the key in the on position. Why run power through your coils for no reason...? Maybe you need an accessory position switch...

I have the key in the run position cuz that's the only way to get my tilt to work which us in a different thread I posted cuz it his down but won't come up. I've always seen the power tilt work with and without the key in the run position.....

That's not really the best way to have it wired. They are usually set up where you can raise or lower the drive without having to turn the key on.

The power for the tilt switch at the helm should come from the battery terminal of the ignition switch, not the ignition terminal.

How will i know the difference between the ignition switch and the ignition terminal? Remember.....I'm no mechanic, but i also wanna know this stuff so i can work on it myself instead of going to the marina....
