I hope this is the right forum to post this question. I want to convert my mercury ignition which is in the control box and has an electric choke, to a simple pushbutton ignition in the dash. Is this even possible? I found a push to choke keyed ignition from merc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ignition Conversion

i did that with my 1976 merc 115hp inline 6.

i used a simple single throw toggle switch to ground out the ignition when i wanted to KILL the motor, and a simple momentary pushbutton red switch for the starter. i put them with all my other switches, knobs, and what nots and did not label them for security, and i also left the keyswitch but disabled it to look like i had no key.

Thanks for the response myoutboards. Did you have to do anything for the choke or did you leave it as a pushbutton in the control box. I saw the setup i want on someones skiboat, but it was an inboard and the owner wasnt around for me to ask.

Re: Ignition Conversion
