OK here is the deal. When I got my boat the wiring was all rigged up. All the guages were hanging from the wires under the dash. Most did not work. The ignition was wired direct, a wire was ran from the back of the amp guage to the positive side of the coil. The boat ran fine like this. When I replaced the guages I do not have an amp guage any longer. So I ran power directly from the ignition switch to the positive side of the coil. When I tried to start the boat the points got red hot and melted. So am I missing something? Should there be a resistor in line as the 12volts too much? I have direct power from the battery going into the battery terminal on my ignition. I have a 3 terminal ignition switch. Then I ran the power strait back from the ignition terminal on the ignition switch. The 3rd runs from the s terminal into the neutral safety for the shift, then to the starter. The only thing that has changed was the removal of the amp guage. Help?

What year is your engine, I have the OEM service manuals for them, but need to know which one. They have the wiring diagrams in them.
